Driving Efficiency: 82% Energy Savings for the World’s Top Construction and Mining Equipment Manufacturer
The Caterpillar (CAT) factory in Campo Largo, located in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, Paraná, is part of a global network of over 500 company units. To maintain its position as a leader in construction and mining equipment, natural gas and diesel engines, industrial gas turbines, and diesel-electric locomotives, CAT operates six factories in Brazil.
In celebration of the centenary of its first factory in the country, CAT marked the production of 300,000 construction machines in Brazil. Large-scale manufacturing requires adequate infrastructure to ensure employee safety and productivity.
In partnership with Silicon, CAT aimed to upgrade the lighting at its Campo Largo facility. A detailed study revealed that high energy and maintenance costs were a critical weakness of the previous system. CAT’s objectives were to reduce energy consumption and extend the maintenance interval of its fixtures.
To meet these goals, 1,460 high-efficiency Aston PRO luminaires were installed, supported by an advanced automation system that allows personalized adjustments to the ambient lighting. The upgrade resulted in significant cost reductions, as the new luminaires maintained previous lighting levels while operating at just 10% of their power.
Proper lighting in industrial environments brings multiple benefits, including reducing accidents, increasing productivity, and enhancing visual comfort, all while complying with current regulatory standards.
The lighting upgrade at CAT’s Campo Largo factory demonstrates how efficient, high-tech solutions can drastically reduce costs, improve safety, and enhance productivity in industrial environments.
