Granja Comary Transforms Field Lighting, Elevating Brazilian Sports to a New Standard
In 2019, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) commissioned a renovation of the lighting system at Granja Comary, in Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro, preparing the national team’s training center for the upcoming edition of the Copa América. This reflects CBF’s commitment to embracing emerging technologies in image transmission and fan engagement, driving innovation across stadiums, arenas, gyms, tracks, and sports fields.
In partnership with Silicon, the training center was upgraded with cutting-edge LED lighting at the request of the technical commission and the organization’s leadership. The illuminated field allows training sessions to take place at any time, day or night, providing crucial flexibility, especially during the winter months when daylight hours are shorter.
With the new lighting system, powered by Silicon’s Coliseo PRO line of projectors, training sessions can now begin at 4 PM, one hour later than in previous national team stays at the center. The CBF also envisions the upgraded structure supporting evening training sessions for youth categories in the future.
In a statement to Silicon, Gabriel Jesus highlighted the importance of the renovation, noting that it is encouraging to see training and playing conditions increasingly aligned with European standards, and expressing confidence that improvements will continue.
He also joked about his teammate: “Ederson still can’t see the ball, but that’s not the lighting’s fault.”
The Coliseo PRO projectors used in the Granja Comary upgrade are equipped with advanced drivers and Flicker Free technology, enabling high-definition and super slow-motion video recording without interference from lighting flicker—an essential feature for professional sports broadcasting.
To further modernize Granja Comary, all Coliseo PRO projectors were designed to integrate seamlessly with automation systems. This allows the field to be illuminated in up to 60,000 different scene configurations, ensuring flexibility for a wide range of training and event needs.
As part of its commitment to democratizing access to technology, Silicon included the Coliseo PRO line, used by FIFA, CONMEBOL, CBF and Série A clubs in the Brazilian Championship, in its Rental and Leasing programs.
This initiative enables smaller clubs and sporting events of different modalities and scales to access world-class lighting solutions, with costs lower than the savings generated by the system itself. Project design is offered at no charge and developed within 10 days by Silicon’s engineering team.
